Tokyo Itinerary: What To See In Tokyo in One Day!

Look, we get it: a one-day Tokyo itinerary seems impossible, right? Not when Tokyo is literally the world’s biggest city, and there’s so much to see and do! But well, we’re locals. We know where it’s at, and we’re here to help you make the most out of your Tokyo day trip!

What follows is a quick one-day Tokyo itinerary that will take you to several of the most popular spots in the city. We’ve also included the times so it’s easy to follow. Ready? Let’s go!

9 AM: Visit the Imperial Palace

Starting our day at 9 in the morning, we visit the heart of Tokyo: the magnificent Imperial Palace. Serving as the home of the Japanese Emperor and formerly the Shogun, this massive complex is filled to the brim with amazing history and culture. Entrance is free and you’ll get to experience a serene atmosphere right in the middle of the world’s largest city.

10:30 AM: Shopping at Takeshita Street in Harajuku

Next up, we travel to the iconic Takeshita Street in Harajuku for some kawaii shopping and dining! Takeshita Street is full of cutesy merch and fashionable stores selling food, clothes, and anything in between. This is perhaps one of the most photogenic sites in all of Tokyo, so get your cameras ready.

1 PM: Have lunch in Shibuya

Another iconic Japanese tourist spot, Shibuya will have everything you can ever want to eat for lunch–and more. At 1 PM, you’ll see just how busy the Scramble Crossing can still be even in the middle of the day. It’s a view that’s hard to find anywhere else in the world.

4 PM: Go to and explore Akihabara

At 4 PM, we ride just a single train line and arrive at Akihabara, the center of the world’s geek culture. Anime, video games, tech, and everything else geeky is always around the corner here! You can visit the world-famous Gigo (formerly the Sega Building) arcade complex and play games ’til you drop.

Not to mention, you can also buy all sorts of collectibles and even hard-to-find retro video games at stores like Super Potato. It’s a true otaku‘s paradise and then some!

6 PM: End your day with bar-hopping in Shinjuku

To end your one-day Tokyo itinerary, you’ll start bar-hopping at Shinjuku from 6 PM. This is where the incredible nightlife of Tokyo can be experienced in all its glory. Areas like Kabukicho and the ever-Instagrammable Golden Gai are yours to explore and have fun in.
